The Ebb And Flow

Good morning dear mermaid hearts,

At the start, when I began contemplating how I should or may shift my online presence, I consulted with my dearly beloved husband. He is my closest confidant and then my most cherished friend P. It has been weighing upon my heart for some time now as I've been truly trying to find those kindred spirits to share with my online offerings.

In 2006 when I began my online blog, there wasn't competition in my world. I merely wrote to jot down my feelings and diary my daily online giving. Upon tucking my wee cherubs into bed and saying their little prayers that fairy beasts wouldn't come for them from their balcony windows, I would type away, never knowing where or what I was attempting to accomplish. I enjoyed it greatly and deeply felt the desire to share, whether by words or a
DIY project; now, looking back, my soul longed for womanly connections. I was somewhat motivated to write and create, yet a great deal of my motivation would ebb and flow like the ocean's tides. It would rise, and then a crashing wave of thunder would knock it back down.

In the beginning, I was doing it for no other reason than for the love of it, and I enjoyed it whilst it lasted. Then in 2017, when everything came crashing down, and through a series of unfortunate events, I lost eleven years of my online words, a swift desire to write online again deeply awakened within me. I knew I would have to utilise my wheelhouse and a great notion of tenacity by beginning all over again.

My blog has remained, and I plan for it to sustain itself for as long as I am capable of putting words together and creating art. When I filed for a divorce from my ex-ill-suited mate, my blog was there for me. It was my happy place. When my son died, my blog was there for me; again, it was my happy place. The slow recovery of healing from a most difficult experience brought me back into the land of the living. All that I care for has improved because I have an allegiance to my online presence; this blog. I believe deep within my heart many women also desire similar notions as myself, and this is why I have such a compassionate nature for this space. Though it is small, it is mighty. If you are curious about why I began asking those who enjoy my work to sign up for Patreon, it is for several reasons; one is that for a very long time, I had difficulty loving myself enough to feel I deserved to be rewarded (paid) for my craft. I often think many women also grapple with this notion; this matter at heart is why I feel a great deal of responsibility to inspire women to rise to the occasion of deeply recognising one's worthiness. To find wisdom and delight in writings and illustrations and so many helpful, moving and beautiful things is what brings us together in love and companionship. The notions and matters I care about, read and adore are at the heart of why I carry on with my little niche online. I want you to know how much your example of showing up to read my blog and sign up for my Patreon means the world to me. It is a sign that I mean something to you and you care about me because we have a tethering cord strung about from soul to soul, linking us as dear, intrinsically bound friends. I believe our only challenge as women is if we aren't willing with gentle, loving hearts to unite. Otherwise, nothing is keeping us from creating the most extraordinary fairytale world; fairytales give us our imaginary wings to believe anything is possible. We, as women, are the mothers; we are the rulers asunder the moon and the shining stars of a most wonderful poetic world.

I understand the weighing and the negatives of the world, yet I am an eternal optimist, and I find when I share goodness, more goodness reigns upon me and (you), my darling friends here in this special little chipmunk's nest.

As of late, I have felt called upon to discern how to make my online life and business feel more like sitting upon a rock next to the ledge of the ocean sending out my thoughtful ripples whilst also deeply feeling the connectedness of others. And although throughout our lives, there will be constant waves, rushing rivers and brewing storms upon the billowy ocean of anxiousness, our underwater haven will be the place of calm, gentle ripples where life is slow, homey, happy, old-timey and simplistic. This kind of life is much needed.

My dear hearts, our lives take fastidious employment, for it will always require toiling away to shift our minds and focus from the algae smudges on the porthole looking out of windows from an outside world full of distraction. It requires conscious effort to swim furiously against the tides and currents that would lead us off course away from our imaginary world of Taking Joy and Following our Bliss, yet as long as we are in this together, no tide can separate us, for we have life rafts for all. Today this is my letter of deepest and most sincere sentiments messaged in a bottle.

I hope your day is beautiful and worthy of bringing a smile upon your face. You deserve it.

P.S. I am having a book giveaway for The Tale of Sawyer Lamb. Merely comment on this post or the previous post, and next week, I will randomly choose seven winners. I am also sending a sweet little print of the sheep I painted along with each book.
Take Joy in the little things.

Most affably yours til my next swim, Razz

Tea Time With Lady R (A Book Release Tea Party For The Tale Of Sawyer Lamb)

Good morning my darling dear mermaid hearts,
Are you up for a chinwag? I've had such a giggle mug these last fortnights. I feel such giddiness at the notions set forth. I'm speaking of my new projects for Patreon and the book illustrations. I'm on the whole stretch of it with Sawyer's book.

Shall I commence? Easter was a charming delight, a bit pitter-patter and quiet as a mouse, as only a celebration for two, my beloved gardener and me. We ate by candlelight, watching the wind blow the rockers softly back and forth and as the Spanish grey moss swayed in the old oaks. A proper southern countryside display in all its glory. I baked ham, homemade biscuits, deviled eggs and mashed potatoes. I then baked peach cobbler for dessert to accompany our afternoon Fortnum and Mason tea. Bar none; it's undoubtedly my favourite.

I have been showing forth self-love and emerging daily for myself. I am up at the crack of dawn to water the garden whilst it is still a bit twilight, and then I put the kettle on and start painting by candlelight. It could be more trouble than it's worth at the best of times as I fiddle about not quite able to see clearly. I love the nostalgia of a candle-lit room, and I've not found anything more charming, cosy or calming to my soul. Furthermore, it casts such a lovely glow about the face, and my lines are less noticeable. (Wink, wink) Are those sheep in the illustration a delight to gaze upon?
I am in awe-inspiring love with sheep and have such a "Take Joy" time in painting them in the story. It's so lovely and puts me in such a historical setting that I can hardly take the happiness. Above is the latest illustration I've completed for Sawyer's book, and now there are eight remaining with a bit of polishing ship shape and Bristol fashion; the printing press will send them out for your post. I am also plotting a Live Stream Book Release Tea Party for The Tale of Sawyer Lamb, on June 8, 2023, at 8:18 pm. I am cordially inviting you and would love it if you'd tick the date off in your calendar as I'd be tickled conch shell pink if you'd turn up. You are my favourite people in all of the world. I'm very proud of the story, and I feel in recent weeks, I've no longer felt distressed about the release. I've had such a calmness allowing the book into the world to soar cloud high. My most extraordinary emotions and love went into the little story, and I feel confident everyone that reads it will feel the treasure of it. It has been such a joy to write and illustrate, as you, dear hearts, well know. This is a celebration of life, it will be on Sayerrs Birthday, and I couldn't think of a better day to release it into the universe, can you? I also want to genuinely thank each of you for being there with me, reading my blog and supporting me along the way as you've born me the gift of compassionate understanding through and through. You have been such a profoundly loving support, and I appreciate it; it has meant the absolute world to me, and I feel an unequivocal bond with each of you.

I began sharing on Instagram little 90-second reels I deemed "Tea Time with Lady R", where I share little tidbits of spirituality, book recommendations, chit chats and this, that and the tenth.

Do you recall when I reinvented Stillwater~ A Petticoat Society, one of the fun ideas I wanted to establish having a list of like-minded ladies, and we all became pen pals, writing one another back and forth? Well, we did it, dear hearts; there are five and counting. We must begin somewhere, and it's quite an affair, my fruits. What delights we have to learn and grow in love and friendship! Would tou like to be a part of the pen pal list? If so, please comment below, and I will message you privately to exchange addresses, and we shall commence forward as a beautiful community of ladies. Is that not such an exciting measure? Golly gumdrops!

Do you recall many years ago, there was a television series on YouTube called Victorian Farm featuring Ruth Goodman? The series has been removed from YouTube but remains currently on Amazon Prime. The book they used was The Book of the Farm. Well, if you happen to look up the book to purchase it, it can be a hefty fortune., yet luck be a lady tonight; I did a little research and found a reprinted version from the original, and it's a mere 9£. Here is the link if you're interested. It has everything for a Victorian lifestyle.
I am having such a splendid time reading this book. My conundrum is I have loads of books delivered weekly as if they're going out of style. Do you have this plight as well, so many books, so little time. Teehee...It reminds me of a quote Tasha Tudor said once, " If I didn't have the wolf at the door, I would spend all of my time on housewifery gardening and buying bulbs." Or something to that effect. Have a happy day, my fruits. I love you, and I shall write again tomorrow.

Most affably yours til my next swim, Lady Rxxx

In Deep Thought With Mrs Carter And Her Pursuit for Happiness Among Skeptics

... In a time lacking in truth and certainty and filled with anguish and despair, no woman should be shamefaced in attempting to give back to the world, through her work, a portion of its lost heart. —Louise Bogan

Well, hello, my dear darling mermaid hearts,
In the south, November brings few and far between cold days. Instead, equipped with our fair share of wet thunderstorms and early evenings. Mrs Carter dreams of fires lit with her little family drawing hearthside in the placidness of Scarlette Rose cottage. The month begins with a remembrance of those we've loved and lost on All Souls' Day and then to the festival of Martinmas on November 11. (Martinmas, a very olde European winter celebration dating back to the middle ages concerning Saint Martin of Tours.) Inspired by Martin's dream, he hears the words, "what ye have done unto the least of your brothers you have done unto me", which perfectly fits into this post. Mrs Carter is not a religious lass yet was in her youth. However, she acknowledges the Bible contains, within its pages, friendly instruction if understood accurately. In addition, the Victorians were quite religious so let us remain on point, shall we?

Soon, it will be time to go over the hills and through the woods to the cottage for everyone to gather for Thanksgiving. It's quite the stirrup, bringing the first hints of Christmas joy.

Mrs Carter is up to her wellies in painting illustrations, so might we skip right to the post? She will publish a pleasurable entry arriving tomorrow. Today is for another bit of instruction she intends to grapple with, beings no one else seems to lay the truth on the line, so you know my fruits, Mrs Carter will assume the charge.

The truth is Mrs Carter has been balancing many tasks. Keeping things running smoothly with her folks, bearing up with filming, Patreon, youtube, gardening, sewing, writing, illustrating, running social media, photography, formatting her books, etc. (yes, it is quite a load to balance). Sometimes, it creates a somewhat defensiveness when someone prattles off at the brim that she's not doing this or that; one should mind their garden before informing Mrs Carter about her weeds. However, she's pretty accurately aware of her pruning responsibilities, and she thanks you very much.

The motive for Mrs Carter's penning on thee ole' blog is that it's her one weakness in how she is fortunate enough to make sense of her life and life in general. She does not write anything about false narratives or scattering about of mistruths. Now mind you, her little storybooks, on the other hand, are entirely fictitious; the blog is ALL fixed truths. If someone questions her online diary material and validity, it tears her heartstrings and shreds her spirit, for she's poured her true heart out; sharing the truth is not easy and executing it with grace is a challenge. In knowing Mrs Carter, though, she will continue to big herself up for accomplishing it exceptionally well. She is trustworthy, and therefore those who should have the highest expectations reading her diary (blog) never dare doubt the authenticity of her writings.

If you're curious, dear hearts, why she commenced this post with audaciousness is distinct because her blog is a tiny chipmunk's nest online and where beautiful friendships form, yet she will set afoot when she feels unjustly condemned. When someone disembarks onto her blog, has bad intentions and is swift to find all the faults in the world, the universe will have its way with them. That statement sounds quite harsh, yet the world can be brutal if one views it that way or rather beautiful if one decides to view it that way too. Mrs Carter will always try to write with elegance and dignity (averaging from 13,000 to 20,000 pageviews reading her blog monthly, which might not be much for some, but it is from Mrs Carter's standing). However, she is confident some viewers drop anchor to scoff and lay judgement with their ill intentions of pinpricking. A sure sign post they've left their manners at the back gate of the vicarage.

Whilst she lays aside those scruples, Mrs Carter wants to bring up the conversation of gossiping. Because, well, she's quite the muse in angling herself on the air of British (not born British, yet relates on the side of British in her remaining dignified yet bold way. Surely you jest.) She would much rather be polite by dragging it to Towne Square (ye olde blog) rather than take it straight to the person at hand. This feat is not a cowardess act by any means; however, these days, she'd much rather wait and allow her vexed nerves to calm themselves before putting on her queen Sansa Stark from Game of Thrones, announcing, "be off with her head!" (Smile) Mrs Carter's Victorian red-haired updo and temper have gotten her into enough trouble over the years. She minds her business on social media, yet, stumbled upon a young mummy talking about her struggling as a Christian woman and feeling remorseful for always gossiping about others. She falls prey to gossip even when she doesn't want it to happen; she states having to 'repent' and feels awful about herself. The horrible feeling isn't about her need to repent; the God within her knows she's hurting herself when she hurts another. (Hence the quote at the start of this post). Her hypocrisy knows no bounds. It flairs its beguiling head from the black lagoon, and before she realises it, she feels dreadful about herself. First, I commend her for being open and vulnerable enough to talk about it; some folks are on their high horse to admit their frailties, yet everyone sees them like a flaming torch of the olympic degree. In truth, many folks have most likely gossiped and have been rather unkind, particularly when feelings are damaged. Let us hope we also have enough self-awareness to correct our deficiencies at night by performing a Neville Goddard revision technique. Mrs Carter uses a suitable revision method and commits to love more. She also understands that falling prey to being unloving is entirely her difficulty and no one else's. Nowadays, if the conscience prompts her, a gentle confrontation with individuals (in a loving, forthright way) is her way, or she will write about it here on the blog after she's settled her spirit.

Mrs Carter's writing focuses on growing, learning and remaining compassionate, which can be tricky when some folks want to paw at others. One must refuse to be a victim and get on, knowing those with acid-rain thoughts will see their fate. That's not cold. That is the life of universal law. If one has the wherewithal to be unkind to one's fellow beings, unkindness will arrive in the same measure but tenfold. May we accept responsibility for our thoughts? Why can't folks comprehend that their in-the-dark secreted disparaging thoughts must come to light? Conceivably, perhaps they are void of common sense? Everyone will make restitution for their venom. If one doesn't believe in universal law, look at the late Wendy Williams; she spent decades viciously gossiping about celebrities and being downright despicable, and look at her karmic debt. That's just one example. If one falls into backbiting, may we acknowledge what we've done in several ways?

One is to comprehend it was not originating from a place of love, and it's invariably about what trauma is being held in which (that person activated the pain). Lastly, Mrs Carter is somewhat selfish, implying she does not want to fall prey to the consequence of the boomerang effect. The universe and the law of assumption work; she knows more abundantly and clearly that gossiping stories return tenfold. Everything we do (whether good or bad) will happen to us seventy times seventy. If one steals, another will steal from them. If we fib, we will be told an untruth with rigour, understand?

May we correct our faults and strive to improve.

My dear hearts, Mrs Carter, writes because she genuinely wants to inspire others to recognise their journeys of difficulties. So, as a community of lovely souls, we will unite to help and become a better, more improved version of ourselves.

Now to return to the subject at hand. When a person gossips about another, the truth lies in the person's deep insecurities and lack of self-love. Mrs Carter understands more than anyone as she has spoken of her misgivings and struggles repeatedly with her once self-loathing. When coaching, she often hears that the client will exhibit self-hatred, yet quickly responds, "I do not hate me; I love me." Their first response is, and understood as Mrs Carter often stated similarly to herself too. Understandably it is our defensive self that is insulating our hearts from pain. I concur with Mrs Carter as I would also say that exact statement, and even when someone would question my ability to love myself, I would snap back at them in a vast defensive nature. How dare they speak the truth! The nerve! (smile) The truth is a large horse pill to swallow, although once we cease to a cascade of pretending beyond complications, we will all be better off. Again, being vulnerable and teachable is quite refreshing and very healing.

The dear woman who spoke to Mrs Carter about gossip and writing this post has been another lesson taught to improve by accepting accountability and being more observant of our actions. We're pretty good at trying to think well about others, yet may we be additionally aware of our slips. I love you, and Mrs Carter loves you, dear hearts. We're all in this together. Have a Take Joy day! Toodle-Pip!

Most affably yours til my next swim, Raquelxxx

Advancing Towards The Past, A Wee Bit Of My Cottage Core Life In The 19th Century

Our Portrayal Of Victorian Life: Recreating A Cottage Core Life From The 19th Century One Step At A Time Series: Scale (Part) I

"A woman may sit in her quiet room, and, by her love, that brightens the homes of earth, and her faith, that lifts human hearts to the hope of their heavenly home, she may send out influences that will not only make the world better and happier but also help it to rise upward in its onward progress."

—Sarah Josepha Hale, 1866

Hello, dear hearts,

I thought that before I tick off this series, you may want to watch the video I created on ye olde YouTube, where I prattled about aspects of The Carter Settlement, my portrayal of Victorian life and what is undoubtedly many of the reasons for my desire to live in the 19th century.

I thought perhaps, in my ambition to demonstrate my course of action in words, I would toss out the numerous inquiries I receive from women and then answer them from my perspective. So let me get on, darlings.

I am under the impression you're not new here; however, if you are, I speak about the cottage core/olde fashioned lifestyle at nausea some might crack. In my bid to disembowel such aspects, I will express in-depth what cottage core is and give a depiction because many are under misguided understanding. Cottage Core has been around for centuries and means many different things to women. In a nutshell I swiped a snippet from the interweb. Cottagecore is a fashion aesthetic popularised by teenagers and young adults celebrating an idealised rural life. Traditionally based on rural English and European life, it was developed throughout the 2010s and was first named cottagecore on Tumblr in 2018. The aesthetic centres on traditional country clothing, interior design, and crafts such as drawing, baking, and pottery and are related to similar aesthetic movements such as grandmacore, farmcore, goblincore, and fairycore.

The tenets of cottagecore can help to satisfy its proponent's desire for "an aspirational form of nostalgia" as well as an escape from many forms of stress and trauma.

•What is the meaning of the pursuit to live a cottage core/Victorian lifestyle, and why, when onlookers observe those who exhibit a different lifestyle, they may find it a bit odd?

I've spoken previously in other posts that the logic for my living olde timey is that from the outset, I've always been this way since I was a small girl. Thus, for some time, I strayed from my inner truth of what I truly wanted for my life. Honestly, at the time, I felt it might be impossible to accomplish, mainly because the person I was married to at that juncture was adamant that as long as we were married, my desires to live old-fashioned were constantly squelched. Nonetheless, I would also like to state that I did not divorce my ex-ill-suited mate because of my desire to live the old-fashioned way (not entirely), but it was definitely one of the many things that built up the brick walls of my resentment. At varying stages of my life, I constantly attempted to return to my old-fashioned living. However, I had a bit of a crawl, and often, onlookers had much to say about my aesthetic. I was an insecure young woman, and because of that I allowed others' opinions to get the best of me for many years.

Nevertheless, my transformational voyage began four years before my son's passing. I had finally decided I would divorce the olde sod, and when I leapt, that was the start of me living life on my terms. That does not mean I accept nor believe everyone must throw caution to the wind and divorce their mate to live a dream; however, within my soul, I knew I was finished and had been for more than a decade. A woman knows when her soul has begun the descent into decay, although the clock chimes differently for every individual. Coupled with my decision to divorce as you might well imagine, when my son (at the young age of 24) made his transition, I gave rise to self-resolve and invariably live my truth even if it was unwanted or scoffed at by others, which was the most challenging decision as my daughter was 16 when I left my marriage.

Many mothers would not have done what I did, and I know I felt the anger and hostility from women directly telling me that I was an unfit person for abandoning ( yes, they used the word abandon) my children. Although all of my children had left home to live independently, and my daughter was 16, I hardly feel I left them so vulnerable. But scoffers there will be, and I pay no mind to them. If someone is going to judge me, let them. I ignore everyone anyway if they are terrible and unkind characters because what they think of me is irrelevant. Today, after years have progressed, I would now say, watch what you do and say. For, sure enough, I know these same people who passed unkind rulings on me are currently experiencing horrific karmic debts of similarities in how they judged me. Although most folks in this forest of fools believe they can prattle (what they feel is harmless chatter) by gossiping about another, I am giving a solemn candid reminder and profound caution that those folks will experience a karmic debt intensively. Not only will it come to pass, but the bounce back will be 70 times 70 and worse than ever. Trust me, I know from experience. I felt the heat because I once judged constantly (all be it secretly, I thought nothing of it because I was chatting behind their backs). Little did I understand the law and that what we do privately will be revealed openly, and indeed nothing is more difficult to endure than having to eat crow. It did not feel good to know I was the consequence of my demise and misery until I understood universal law. Therefore constantly be mindful that there is no respecter of persons. We all reap what we wield. So, yes, my friends, I am sending out a cautionary tale; let us be mindful of our internal conversations.

I determined to never return to my olde self. How might one begin anew if constant tethering to the way others would like us to be is neverending? It's not improper to create and become a new version of oneself. It's entirely courageous and requires enormous tenacity even though the forest of fools would strive and warn otherwise. An Additional beautiful reason for my planting myself one step at a time into the 19th-century cottage core lifestyle is that I am an author and illustrator. As early as childhood, when I would wear old-timey Victorian dresses to school, I knew I felt differently. It quickly positions one in a new way of thinking when dressed a particular way. I live and dress according to the era in which my work is composed; the victorian. I heard Johnny Depp confess in an interview that he keeps music in his ears while filming his movies and that we all carry a soundtrack or symphony within. I truly loved that analogy, and it's undoubtedly valid from my perspective. I'm never more in my element than when I have Victorian music or Enya playing in my ears. Likewise, I feel more connected to that place and time. England in the 19th century was and is heaven on earth to me, and because I love it so much, I decided to live in it. Albeit, I am in America. Tasha Tudor said that all one has to say when looked at weirdly is to confess to being an artist and straightaway, the artist can get away with anything. Hence, most folks think we artists have all gone soft in the head anyhow, so why not embrace our peculiar nature.

If a woman is not self-confident, there will be much mortification while attempting the cottage core lifestyle. When it pertains to the clothing of an old-fashioned or vintage nature, it seems complicated for various women when leaving the confines of their shielded comfort zones. We must create a movement where we all wear our lovely old clothes (any style) and embrace them with enthusiasm. Get to the grocer to collect provisions (and don't forget your baskets); we must go into the world and take on adventures, as Beatrix Potter boldly stated.

The cottage core movement requires confidence at a deep core level and enormous tenacity. We must learn to live in the world but not of it. Although we choose to live differently, the option cannot be for us to feel confident we all must live our lifestyle only at home or around women that are exactly like us. We cannot all move into caves and live as squirrels. We must brave the world and go out with an adventurous heart. How does one operate today and live in the past, and what is the meaning behind such efforts? Whereas I cannot speak for anyone but myself, I thought it might be within my reach to clarify my purposes so that, as women, we can become more of a fellowship community and less competitive in unhealthy ways. A little competition is relatively healthy in particular settings; however, not when we are all individually attempting a lovely little lifestyle niche for ourselves. That is the time when we should endorse and encourage one another. There's enough unkindness in the world; let us be better than that.

"Fellowship is heaven, and lack of fellowship is hell." ~William Morris

When one is a bit unusual, it can have a harsh response from other women attempting to live and transition into their individual dream life. I do not for a moment take this topic of cottage core with ease as I believe there are enormous aspects that have yet to be unearthed and looked upon in-depth. To me, cottage core is more than an aesthetic; much more. Along my transition (wearing old-fashioned clothing and living an olde timey way), there was a bit of a backlash. However, after much reflection, I have been put to ease. As suspected, the wicked jealous fairy beast was at the centre of their strife towards me; I know because two of these ladies have since come forward to apologise. Therefore a gentle reminder, dear folks, take score when women begin performing peculiarly towards you or exhibit a bit of recoil, firstly tick off whether you are attracting that retaliation. It may very well be from one inner subconscious belief system. Receive the data courageously (it's alright if we have a few belief narratives to work through). Secondly, endeavour to discern that living a cottage core life may unnerve some folks; however, follow your hearts regardless, understand that's life and get on with it. Not everyone will love us, and that's perfectly alright too.

I highly respect a woman who can admit their failings, and I am happy to report that I have made amends with two of the ladies exhibiting the jealous fairy beasts. One must understand that when a person does something entirely courageous and bold, it can ignite deep internal insecurity within someone. As a gentle reminder, I am cautious not to judge these women, as I now have come round to understand and have compassion. In the past, I was a jealous person. These days I keep a check on my emotions. It is a constructive way of keeping inventory of my fallacies. My employment is to take accountability for my actions mindfully. If I feel a rumbling beneath my feet, I will immediately evaluate if, at some point or another, I can recollect when I had sewn the seed somewhere and at what point. If I am relieved of that matter, I feel happy about the score of my harvest. In the past, I most definitely manifested those envious women; however, I've established all new kindred spirits and friends that I find utterly delightful, warm and cheerful. I have new beliefs imprinted, and I am tickled conch shell pink at approximately a year now, and I never have female relational issues with women anymore. I want you to know how peaceful that feels in my soul. I truly am an entirely different person. I have true pals now; we genuinely adore and encourage one other. I also manifested that I would have deep (long-lasting) connections and a new way of viewing women's friendships, which are illustrated these days at a constant.

Speaking of which, I have a new pen pal and am so happy. Do you enjoy pen pals? I am plotting something lovely for Stillwater-A Petticoat Society very soon.

•How does one create the atmosphere of old-fashioned cottage core living I am striving for when loved ones are affected by those decisions, and how does one navigate the many currents through the transitional process? I will answer to the best of my ability from my perspective.

I believe it first begins somewhere in childhood when as a small girl, I possessed a curiosity for the oddity of things. I was never one to ask typical questions; I was inquiring about oranges when others examined apples. It begins early for each of us; however, through research and scrutiny, I have found that desires defer around the ages of 11-13. Of course, every human being is unique with varying circumstances. Still, this deferring occurs in children in home environments where there is not a united effort nor large amounts of attention from both stewards equally (male and female). This age is very telling in childhood psychology. At that age, we will soon be teenagers (but not entirely), which is relatively conflicting. We have a strong desire to develop independence yet also yearn to be part of a peer group. We seek to identify with who we are and often borrow society, such as pop culture, to define ourselves, especially if we never bond firmly with our guardians. This feat is precisely why many youngsters look to celebrities or their idols for guidance in identity measures themselves. So, for example, I was in a home where my mother nurtured my imagination. I was also the only girl, and we lived in the country, which meant I didn't have many peers to fidget with, and I was a very reserved and quiet little girl. (I know, right, don't say it.) Smile, wink, wink...No, in all seriousness, early on, I was shy to a profound degree. And shall we ignore that I demonstrated red hair, fair skin, freckles and wore glasses as early as 2nd grade? They were not such great confidence builders in the '70s.

Although my circumstances dealt many a blow with my father's alcoholism (he's been a recovering alcoholic for over 40 years) and my mum's insecurity from relying on my father's breadwinning, she was a stay-at-home mother. She spent enormous time with me, nurturing my wild notions and expecting me to demonstrate tremendous independence. I grew up with rare outside influences, minimal television, and spent all my childhood reading and being in nature with a farming (remember my post about our neighbours, dear ole Kate & family that lived as Victorians) mentality. There was never a lack of creativity. The Carter philosophy is heavily artistic and enormously inventive. My landed gentry hails from Sussex, so there's an enormous intertwining of tradesmen, a guild of handicrafts weaved among my lineage. There is also a heritage of rebellion and ingenuity of invention. I'm confident I was born with that requirement to be distinct.

•Where from which do our desires stem?

Desires originate from our higher inner conscious, the God aspect of ourselves. It's spurred on by the more profound inner knowing of our souls wishing to acquire something distinct, whether living old-fashioned or on Mars. It is because deeply embedded within our higher consciousness, we remember at varying moments of our mortal life that there is a predisposition for what we know of ourselves on a level other than this world in which we now dwell. This topic is a deep conversation, and why I will need this to be a series of posts and not simply one long one.

The desire to live and dwell in the 19th century requires commitment in personal focus, specifying vastly on the lifestyle one is toiling away at achieving while not becoming a force-driven conclusion to try and persuade everyone else to try one's lifestyle on for size. A particular person desiring such a way of living for themselves (such as myself) had to accept and learn to navigate my voyage without disrespectfully infringing on others who felt no need or desire to jump aboard my ship of 19th-century living. I admit that before I understood Neville Goddard's teaching of EIYPO (everyone is you pushed out), I was that woman. If I was onto a new approach to anything, I had to try and convince others to be the same as me. This controlling nature occurred because I didn't love myself completely, and I was quite an insecure individual. Those who live in fear have an enormous need for strength in numbers. Many religions desire to control and indoctrinate youngsters (especially girls) early on to try and keep them submissive. However, the underlining truth for many religions is to build up a church, which relies on money to bring about a cause through many people. They rely heavily on strength in numbers and use fear tactics to hold folks into compliance. Once a person becomes independent of needing validation and support from others, they become a dangerous thing to behold. Mind you, I speak from personal experience, and I am not ever going to hold grudges or anger and resentment towards folks in my old faiths that were unjust, but I will share my truth with you as I see fit. It's imperative to share my journey from a scar perspective and not my wounds. At the end of play, once one is a part of any denomination, rules are followed based on morality codes and letters of the law. That is the way it works. It's subtle and interwoven in great degrees. I will caveat that not all folks apart of religion are this way; however, in my four decades of two entirely different faiths (Pentecostal and Mormonism), I saw the same things repeatedly. Although I have also come to understand the part I played. I was raised to believe that there are others above me and there is a patriarchal high arc, so of course, because I believed that way, I had to experience that precisely. Once again, I am everyone pushed out, so I had to live that belief. If you don't know what I mean when I say everyone is you pushed out, swim on over and read this article and it will assist in understanding what I am trying to teach. However, I know better now, and those beliefs are dead and gone.

I refrain from attempting to put out the flame if one or more family members are not on deck with my ideas. We all have a right to live how we please, and simply because one person craves the Victorian lifestyle (such as myself) does not mean that my mate can't have an entirely different set of desires and accomplish them too. I used to believe that if i wanted to live old-fashioned and my mate wanted to travel the world and live in a high rise, that was an impossibility. I realise that was a narrow-minded way of thinking. The attempt to make everyone conform to a narrative overseen by coercion is unnatural. However, I will caveat that statement with the law of assumption rule. If we desire for our family/loved ones to be on board, we can use the law of assumption, perform a tiny technique of living in the end and there you go; before you know it, you shall have your desire. Everyone, you out picture joining forces of an old-fashioned way of life will be along for the voyage. Honestly, dear friends, my objective for this blog, my writings and books are to bring to light that women know who they really and truly are, which are the Gods/ Goddesses of their reality. It is just a bit difficult for a woman to know what to actually do to change their life if they do not first know what is actually transpiring in their mental state and creating their subconscious behaviours. We have to understand where our self-concepts come from and then how to change them.

I believe many of us desire a more rural and traditional cottage core way of living, even men. The objective, though, is to bring about change where the immediate attachment to such a lifestyle does not straight away tick off as a religious sect. In my opinion, nor does a cottage core lifestyle equate to submissiveness simply because we desire a rural lifestyle. There is a place for all of us; it's archaic and small-minded to demand it is an all-or-nothing stance. That is a limited way of being and one I wholeheartedly disagree with at the core, and I feel that change is here. Suppose I have to do it myself. I believe deeply in this movement, and I have taken much of my example from examining Tasha Tudor since first learning of her at 14. Suppose there's ever a person that was the epitome of cottage core; it would have to be Tasha Tudor. However, we must pick up the torch and carry on the legacy now that dear olde Tasha has passed.

To me, tete-a-tete, when I was married to ye olde sod, I went on overwhelming movements and moments where I longed to live over 100 years ago. I had great success, but my error was always trying to change my outside world. Once I internally changed who I was, I was free. When I finally understood and worked from the inside, I became the woman I had always been, and it stuck. There were no more fluctuations. I was confident in my decisions and no longer flip-flopping back and forth, dependent on moods. I see this very often with women, and that is not judgement. It's my observation, and I know where it stems from because I did this exact thing for decades. The struggle is within and displayed externally because of an insecurity matter. I was at a younger age (around my 20s) when it began, when I would start sewing and making all manners of calico dresses and old-fashioned attire and felt everything about my old-fashioned lifestyle worked. My home was all cottage core; however, going out in public in my attire (olde timely clothing), I received enormous disapproval from my spouse and others. Yes, again, because I was insecure in many ways. Now reminiscing, I know it is controlling; nevertheless, when a person is in it at a young age and brought up a submissive and entirely insecure girl, the subtly is so slow and inconspicuous that it remains undetected for many decades.

In my experience, when someone oppresses another, there aren't outright literal insults; it is more subtle disapproval in that there are passive-aggressive remarks, tactical statements and ways to show gestures of disgust, disapproval and embarrassment. It's mental abuse at its finest, and when you are an insecure being, that type of mind manipulation works entirely in favour of the one manipulating. I must also caveat the last few sentences because it took several years before I could take accountability for myself and heal myself from within. For a few years, I was in the mindset of blaming my ex-mate for my mistreatment. Now that I am 50, I am transparent enough to own my portion and take responsibility. The reason for my divulging this information is to set the stage and help my readers to understand all of this mental anguish has a great deal to do with why so many women struggle to live out their passions and dreams, especially the folklore, cottage core lifestyle. We as women must take responsibility and ownership of our own lives and overcome the stereotypical way the world has operated thus far. We must be the women to create the change. It begins with us. It starts at home, yet the unorthodox mentality moves it from just being a movement we enjoy in the comforts of our homes. It's not enough to stay inside our homes, but we must become bold enough to be examples of this action out and about in the world. Tasha shared once that her children would walk behind her because they were embarrassed by how she dressed. She said she had the last laugh because they were happy to announce that Tasha Tudor was their mother once she was a famous author-illustrator and icon. Tasha Tudor exemplified cottage core; she wasn't afraid to dress like a pioneer woman (in front of everyone) regardless of what others would say) and it had nothing to do with being a Christian. In fact, Tasha Tudor, just like Beatrix Potter, and I are not religious women, but most people wouldn't know that unless they've studied it in depth. The notion that everyone attempts to attach the cottagecore slow living movement to being religious must become slated as old news. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with being Christian (I love my Christian friends), but there's a need for a newer and fresh way of viewing things. Olde fashioned dress and cottage core living is not a religious sect. I'm not speaking of this negatively; I am attempting to make a bold statement that we must stop labelling folks, dismissing women and treating other women with contempt if they aren't exactly alike. I assure you that most women who enjoy the same things I do are more similar to me than not; however, for many years, I was dismissed for prevailing in confidence and possessing a forthright personality, most especially after leaving theology. Frequently insecure women are held back from a league of beliefs that women should be submissive (especially to men). They exhibit a compelled nature to judge other women who bolster self-confidence. One of the most prominent niches it begins with is Instagram. I have a little prediction. There will be a movement where wholesome, cottage core, old-fashioned down-home kindness, and adoring affection becomes the most significant movement of all time. I know because I am doing it.

A Cupid's Tea (Victorian Mermaid Paper Dolls And St. Valentine's Day Cards)

Hello darling merfriends,

The weekend before St. Valentine's Day is called Cupid's Tea. It's the day the Victorians set aside to make handcrafted cards.
Oh, the joys of Love's own day. As delightful as St. Valentine's Day is, the cleverest store-bought cards can not match the splendour of a handcrafted paper confection. In a bid to preserve this dying custom, Mrs Carter of Stillwater is here to model the tune of that Victorian and assist in creating a happy home circle memory. Let us fashion some homemade cards from paper, glue and loads of imagination. Mrs Carter has decidedly gone off-piste and plans to make a mermaid victorian paper doll as well as happy-hearted cards.

First, let us assemble the materials. Quality paper -lace doilies are a must heart-shaped round and square in white, ivory, red, pink and gilt.

Mrs Carter has also provided you dear hearts with late nineteenth-century illustrations so popular on victorian Valentine's. For victorian verses, poetry books are an incredible inspiration. So, once you've completed your Valentine's, making them lavish and sentimental as you might possibly imagine, it's time to post them.

Once they have been sent off with the raven carriers at long last, It's time for a delicious and rewarding late afternoon tea party.

Mrs Carter has worked as cupid's assistant, and she's prepared tasty heart-shaped biscuits, homemade clotted cream (both biscuit and cream are Queen Elizabeth's II receipt) and homemade strawberry preserves from her potager garden.

(The episodes for making the cards, paper dolls, biscuits, preserving strawberries with wax seals, and the making of clotted cream are exclusives on Mrs Carter's Patreon subscription, The Curious Mind of Raquel Carter, published Monday, February 14th, 2022.)

Mrs Carter's Opportunities Come Calling And Saucy Flirts

Good day, dear friends,

Are you having a happy and fulfilled day thus far? I made a small pot of jubilee tea, biscuits with homemade clotted cream and homemade strawberry preserves. Last week I picked 20 pounds of strawberries at the farmstead ranch (remember I was on Fox News). Did you see part 2 of my video on ye olde YouTube (channel: Raquel Margaret Carter) where I cooked and canned the strawberries? The little videos I've been making have been "Take Joy" moments, and I've relished in curating them. On Instagram, I'm incorporating (Beyond the Page) where I go live and chat with my sweet friends over there. It's lovely, and I would be tickled if you came to call too. If you enjoy our old-fashioned way of ye olde blog and would like to stick with that method, I've also managed to cover that score. As you see, I've embedded the videos here on ye olde blog (all of the highlighted blue words are links).

I hope you enjoyed my post on Stillwater. Since that post, I've been curating little calendar dates and focusing on old and newly reimagined traditions each month. Today, I began sketching up the calendar, and I'm starting with the month of April (no fretting, I'll have a whole year). I'll start chucking those events into the blog, so you can download the calendars to print and have all your little nittens in one place. They'll be all sorts of ideas and celebratory days. I'm tickled conch shell pink to begin having small gatherings in honour of Stillwater Society (our petticoat philosophy). This year April is a big month because of Sawyers book launch, in which I plan to make a real go of it. So it will stand in future as well; whenever one of my books release, those months will be most notably a more significant event. But not to fret, I'll have all of this here on the blog in detail so we can celebrate each month together. It's living and loving the small things in the simple ordinary days of life.

In April, we will have A Victorian Eastertide. I, Mrs Carter, will invite friends over for a backyard procession in the afternoon. The little women will don their hand-sewn dresses and bonnets, and the little gentleman in their 19th-century trousers and braces. It shall be a promise of renewal for all, offerings of hope for the bereaved during the years of reconstruction, picnic lunch on the lawn, Mrs Carter's Hot Cross Buns and olde fashioned amusements. The April celebration will concur with a press release for Sawyers book launch. Those who attend will pay a small pence and collected admission prices will contribute to more gathered celebrations and the erecting of The Carter Settlement.

A few things currently at play; if you've not been watching my YouTube channel, I do believe you're missing out. As I'm just at the genesis stages, I've created a few things to coincide with my authorship, artistry and Victorian lifestyle. Do you know the channel on YouTube where Mrs Crocombe/ The Victorian Way cooks and explains all things, Victorian? Whereas I think it's a dandy series, I wanted to play on that narrative but create 'quite literally' a real version like myself, living out a Victorian portrayal of life. I will focus on my Victorian lifestyle, my authorship and my artistry. All things Victorian clutched into one. How refreshing. Swim on over if you'd like to have a little natter with me. In this latest video of IG live, I speak on The Tale of Sawyer Lamb, Beyond The Page, and more about Stillwater®️ Petticoat Philosophy.

On the weekdays, I have been spending my time mainly on illustrations for The Tale of Sawyer Lamb, writing, researching and, of course, reading. My novel (Deceit and Dissension) is fierce with the quantity of research that's getting on, rather fun, no less. I also outlined my autobiography (The Little Mermaid's Transformational Tale). I will be publishing several books this year, and I feel so utterly appreciative that I'm on this current momentum. The post She loves me, She Loves Me Not really created a humming effect for my blog stats. Again, just as the Stillwater post went through the roof, so did the friendship one. I had several ladies in my hometown text and (direct message) me on Instagram. I've made plans for tea at The Tilted Tea Cup (our local tea room) and have gone to tea with two of the ladies last week. I also met two on different days at our local pub for a bite to eat. Genuinely, I feel all things are falling into place with Stillwater and the little grassroots society we're creating here in our little village. I believe it will be a vast success, and I can't wait to see all the changes occurring.

Do you recall the 19th-century British novel I'm currently writing; Deceit and Dissension? I've been crafting my outline around my protagonist Elizabeth Margaret Robins and organising my narrative. I've been reading copious amounts of books about the royals, mainly about Princess Margaret currently. The reason being, as you may recall, she had a near-decade ongoing affair with Roddy Llewellyn, the landscape gardener. Oh my, how telling. I believe this affair is showcased on The Crown. Unfortunately, I haven't watched The Crown, have any of you? Should I order the streaming service? I've been reading a few secondary sources: Princess Margaret and Lady in Waiting.

(A little history: When her long-standing affair with Roddy Llewellyn, a landscape gardener 17 years her junior, was exposed in 1976, she lost public sympathy, and her volatile marriage finally ended in 1978, the first divorce in the British royal family in 400 years.)

At the weekends, I've been working on organising Jeffrey Shawn and my belongings into plastic container bins. Then, when it comes time for him and me to get on, we'll be ready in a jiff.

Here's one of the books I have taken to reading, and It's quite lovely.

I hope your weekend is splendid and I'll see you tomorrow.
